I’m looking for help understanding what a basic balance sheet looks like, including a simple example that clearly shows how assets, liabilities, and equity are structured.

The basic formula for a simple balance sheet is Assets = Liabilities + Equity.

It shows Liabilities (Loans, Accounts Payable) + Equity (Owner's Capital) on one side and Assets (Cash, Inventory) on the other. To remain "in balance," both sides must always add up to the same amount.
