Is There A Free Nonprofit Accounting Software?

I’m looking for recommendations on free accounting software suitable for nonprofits. Ideally, it should handle basic financial tasks like tracking donations, managing expenses, and generating reports. Does anyone have suggestions or experience with reliable options?

Wave Accounting is a well-liked free tool for monitoring income and expenses. Take a look at GnuCash for open-source flexibility or ZipBooks' free tier for more features tailored to nonprofits. Google Sheets with templates are also used by many groups to track donations. Make sure a "free" version has enough users for your team at all times.

Yes, several free options exist for nonprofits in 2026:

  • Wave: Offers free unlimited income/expense tracking and invoicing.

  • ZipBooks: Provides a "Starter" plan with unlimited invoicing and basic reporting.

  • GnuCash: A completely free, open-source desktop software for double-entry accounting.
